Sunday School Open House

We look forward to seeing all of you on Sunday, September 9, as Sunday School resumes and a new Church School year begins. We are kicking off the year with a Sunday School Open House in the education wing on the third floor between the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. services. Refreshments will be served. All families with children in the crib room through 5th grade are invited! There will be information available about children and family activities from Sunday School, children’s choirs, and family activities.

Ice Cream Social

Celebrate the end of summer at the First Pres Ice Cream Social on Sunday, September 1, during Coffee Hour. Enjoy Triple-Chocolate Overload and Vanilla ice cream, and Rainbow sherbet from Washtenaw Dairy along with lots of toppings. Our fourth option served was left up to a vote! Come and see which flavor won: Oreo Cookies and Cream, Peppermint, or Cookie Dough?

Madrigals, Motets and More

Aeolian Chorale will present Madrigals, Motets and More: An evening of a cappella choral music on Sunday, August 27 at 4:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary at First Pres with Marshall Dicks, director, and First Pres member Tom Brandt as a singer in the ensemble. A free will offering will be taken.

Walking for Justice

This summer, we are showcasing four historical “walks”. Some are by choice, a few are not. All relate to our summer theme of Mercy, Justice, and Humility. Our “walks” will run from June 18th to August 27th. The walks are listed below. There is more information available for each walk below.

Walking with Jesus: Mercy, Justice, Humility

This summer, First Pres invites you to walk with Jesus in our worship, reading, talking, and, yes, – walking – as we lean into the ageless practices of mercy, justice, and humility. We are in constant motion – that’s a fact of modern life. Yet life never seems to settle down, or to fall out as we imagine, so we are constantly harried. In a world that teases us with its harsh edges and plentiful injustices, creating a workable hands-on Christian spirituality is a challenge.

Adventures with Flat Jesus!

What? Adventures with Flat Jesus? You heard us right! This summer, as we enter the travel season, we want you to take Jesus with you….yup, FLAT JESUS! (This is our take on the popular Flat Stanley books.) Pick up a copy of Flat Jesus at the church picnic on June 11 or any other Summer Sunday, or download the Flat Jesus pdf. While we hope you will be in worship with us throughout the summer, if you are away we want you to take Flat Jesus along as your traveling companion.
