A brief introduction to Christian meditation
The purpose of the meditation is to quiet our hearts and minds in God’s presence.
We meet on the first and third Saturdays each month in Monteith Hall. We begin at 8:35 a.m. and finish by 9:35 a.m. Our first in-person session will meet on Saturday September 18, 2021.
There is no preparation necessary other than bringing a notebook or a journal for your own use. With an invitation from Scripture to "be still and know that I am God" or some other word to remind us we are in God's presence we enter into a time of silence together. Then a text from Scripture will be read twice followed by a time of silence. Then we take time to journal that we have experienced in the silence or from the text. When everyone has finished writing, we read what we have written - all of it, one sentence, one paragraph, or none as you like. There is no pressure to read.
Writing and then reading aloud what we have written can deepen what we have experienced and there is often something that touches the hearts of those with whom we share.
