Compassionate Conversations in Times of Stress and Change

Monday, January 11, 7:00 p.m. via Zoom - Dr. Kelcey Stratton leads this month’s Stephen Ministry Continuing Education program “Compassionate Conversations in Times of Stress and Change: Supporting Emotional Well-Being.” It is open to all of you! When times are difficult, how do you recognize and respond to distress in yourself and others? Drawing on research-based theories and practices, this session will provide information, support strategies, and reflection tools to help provide compassionate support to those experiencing sadness, worry, loss, or uncertainty.

Art Against Homelessness Eagle Project

Homelessness is experienced by nearly 5,000 Washtenaw County residents annually. To raise awareness about this issue, which has been made worse by the Covid-19 pandemic, Ethan Phillips has created a virtual art exhibition as part of his Eagle project. Ethan is currently a rising Eagle scout in Troop 7, and a part of the church's youth group. Working with volunteer artists and First Presbyterian, a wide variety of pieces have been created.

Alexis (Lex) Allum Ordination

Alexis Allum will be ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament by the Presbytery of Detroit this afternoon at First Pres on Sunday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Angela Ryo, Associate Pastor for Faith Formation at the Kirk in the Hills Presbyterian Church in Bloomfield Hills, and a former Resident Minister at First Pres, will be the preacher for this special worship service.

Mature Ministries Lunch & Learn - School Safety in the Covid-19 Pandemic

Len Rezmierski, First Pres member speaks on “School Safety in the Covid-19 Pandemic and What Schools are Doing to Keep Kids Safe”. Talk with Len about the dilemmas, challenges, and successes. Len retired after 46 years of service with Northville Public Schools having served the last 20 years as Superintendent. After receiving a Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University in 1965, Leonard Rezmierski went on, in 1969, to earn a Master of Arts majoring in Special Education with a minor in Administration at the University of Michigan.
