Food Rescue Program

The Food Rescue/Feeding Our Neighbors Program has been in existence since 2011. During the last 13 years the program has expanded from just picking up the cooked, but unsold food at football games, to include all Big Ten Men's Basketball home games, Women's Basketball, Gymnastics, and Volleyball - as well as the high-quality food from the athlete's kitchen.  The delivered food is ready to be reheated and served by the social organizations we support.

Each year this program has saved over 8,000 lbs of high-value food.  Food Rescue has had a significant impact on those experiencing food insecurity - specifically those served by Cass Community Services and the Detroit Rescue Mission.

Volunteers of all ages, from middle school to adults, are needed to support this year's football game Food Rescue Pickup.  For the 2024 Football Season, we need volunteers to help with the following:

  • Game Day: Food Pickup: Pickup and sort food after the game (2 hours, 6 people)
  • Monday: Load truck at 9:00 a.m. (1/2 hour, 2 people)
  • Monday: Drive truck to Detroit (4 hours, 1 person)

Please sign up HERE.

As a volunteer, you are part of game day and get to see “the other side” of the Stadium experience.  Plus, the group has a great time working together!  The Monday Driver/Detroit experience gives you the opportunity to see firsthand the positive impact our efforts have on those in need.
