Discussion of Dr. Jelks’ latest book, Letters to Martin: Meditations on Democracy in Black America
My book, Letters to Martin: Meditations on Democracy is an exploration of democracy through the lens of the histories of Black Protestants in their efforts to build a more inclusive society. I argue that all persons should explore the spiritual roots of democracy through the experience of Black freedom struggles, which birth persons like Sojourner Truth to Martin Luther King, Jr.
