Immature Ministries (40s & 50s) Potluck

Are you in your 40s or 50s? Single or couple? It’s time for an Immature Ministries Party! Join us for a potluck dinner on Saturday, October 8, at 6 p.m. at the home of Nancy and Bob Crawford. Keep in mind the annual chili-cookoff is coming in January. Place and date are TBD.

Requiem for Orlando

The Mozart REQUIEM with chorus and orchestra will be presented as a community event Tuesday, June 14, at 8:00 p.m. at Hill Auditorium in memory of the victims of Sunday's massacre in Orlando. All are invited to attend. Singers interested in participating: Please RSVP (indicating your voice part) to requiemfororlando@gmail.com. The chorus will rehearse at 6:00 p.m. and take a break before the 8:00 p.m. presentation. Dinner will be provided.

“Seeing Nicaragua with Faithful Eyes” - Meet the Sundbergs!

First Pres families, students and children are all invited to attend “Seeing Nicaragua with Faithful Eyes” Sunday, June 12, in the Lewis Room from 8:15 – 9:15 a.m. This is an opportunity to meet our Presbyterian Co-Workers serving in Nicaragua, Renée and Justin Sundberg and their children, Autumn, Jack, Cassie and Ethan. Justin and Renée work with the Council of Protestant Churches of Nicaragua (CEPAD), facilitating mission teams from the United States who come to Nicaragua to work with and learn from Nicaraguans.

Welcome Refugees to Ann Arbor

The Mission Committee, Pastors, and Session of First Pres as well as individual members of the congregation are deeply concerned with the ongoing resettlement crisis for refugees, particularly those fleeing from Syria. Rev. Jay Sanderford is working with volunteers from the congregation to explore how First Pres can best respond. A number of other local congregations interested in taking action are exploring the issue as well. At this time, Jewish Family Services (JFS) is the agency in Washtenaw County with the knowledge and ability to resettle refugees, be they individuals or families.

Heavenly Calling, Earthly Work: Mission {Re}imagined

“Heavenly Calling, Earthly Work: Mission {Re}imagined,” is a weekend conference held by the Mission Committee at First Pres, January 22 – 24, with the goal of developing a shared vision our church’s mission in the community and the world. All members and friends are invited to two days of learning, conversation, and imagination. The conference is designed to engage the imagination, transform the practices, and energize the members of First Pres to create a vision, and then bring that vision to reality.

Interfaith Round Table Thanksgiving Celebration

This year’s Interfaith Thanksgiving Celebration will be held Sunday, November 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Ann Arbor on 4001 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd. The theme is "Appreciating Joy in Our Lives." A wide array of spiritually oriented people will give thanks with inspirational music, carefully considered thoughts, and brief reports from a wide variety of faith traditions and community building endeavors. An Open House begins at 6:30 p.m. The Thanksgiving Celebration begins at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will follow the celebration.

Quad A Brunch

Members of Quad A and their families and friends are invited to attend the annual Quad A brunch on Sunday, October 22. The festivities will begin at noon in the Social Hall. Quad A includes people in North and NE Ann Arbor. Quad A deacons will be contacting their chapel members to invite them to attend. Members will be asked to bring either a salad, vegetable dish, fruit or dessert. Please join us to meet your fellow chapel members, get to know your deacon, and share fun, fellowship, and a delicious meal!

Apple Pies & Rum Cakes!

Make room in your freezer for holiday bake goods! The Haiti Mission Team is making frozen apple pies for purchase ($12) that can be picked up on Sunday, November 20 at the Mission Bazaar from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the Social Hall. We give you instructions for baking the pie from freezer to oven.

The Mission Team is also selling Haitian Rum Cakes - delicious, moist rum cakes made fresh with imported Haitian rum. Serve them now or freeze for the holidays. A large rum cake serves 12-16 ($30) and a small rum cake serves 4 ($8).

Cass Work Day: Spring Planting

Spring is coming! That means our annual “Plant the Vegetable Gardens at Cass” workday is just around the corner. Come be a part of our group on Saturday, May 11 – we’re looking especially for families and youth. Come and show Cass and its residents that we care!
