Christmas Hymn Festival and Reception

Join in the Singing at the Hymn Festival - Tom Granum will lead our congregation in singing Christmas carols and hymns from our wonderful Schoenstein pipe organ. The Chancel Choir, Youth Choir, and orchestra will provide additional leadership and present several carol-based selections. Some carols will be preceded with exciting introductions or end with exhilarating soprano descants. Others will be followed by an organ reflection on what was sung, and many will be sung "straight" with beautiful, unadorned congregational singing.

Youth: Ending the Silence (For Middle and High Schoolers)

Sunday, December 3, 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in Monteith Hall - Ending the Silence is designed to give middle schoolers and high schoolers an opportunity to learn symptoms and indicators of mental illness and give ideas about how to help themselves, friends, or family members who may be in need of support. A young adult living with mental illness will give a personal testimony and discuss his/her journey to recovery. Youth leaders and program and pastoral staff members will also be present.

Parents and Teachers as Allies (For Adults Only)

SUICIDE: Ending the Silence - Last year our area experienced more teen suicides than it had ever before. Parents and youth are concerned and anxious to know more about how they might help someone before tragedy occurs. NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) will present two different programs here at First Presbyterian, one for youth and one for adults, designed to provide information and resources. Both programs are presented by trained volunteers with lived experience (both an adult and a youth).

First Pres collected and shipped 64 "Clean Up Buckets" to assist victims and the Mission Committee expresses gratitude for this response! Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico and PDA assessment is ongoing. Years of recovery lie ahead and your commitment will help PDA extend the hands of Christ toward long-term rebuilding after three hurricanes.
