Mission Statement and Focus Areas

Mission Statement

Our mission is to grow spiritually as disciples of Jesus Christ through worship, fellowship, mission, learning, and prayer.

Focus Areas

First Presbyterian Church does a great deal well. Members take pride in many ministries of the church. But challenged by Doug Brouwer with the question, "What would happen if the Holy Sprit were to blow through our church today?", members identified several areas of ministry that need special attention:

Belonging and Connectedness -- overwhelmingly our members said they desired a greater sense of belonging to the church and to the other members of the church. More small groups, use of name tags, a friendlier environment were just a few of the recommendations.

Faith Development -- our members also stated clearly their desire to grow spiritually as disciples of Jesus Christ, to know their faith better, and to translate that faith into distinctively Christian lives.

Worship -- while our members love our church's worship life, they also thought it could be improved -- through more variety and an expansion of new forms.

Mission -- our members were proud of the work of the international task forces, but stressed their desire for more emphasis on local needs.

Targeted Ministries -- finally, our members stated that the church needed to lavish special attention on youth, college age, and seniors. Our members see the need to provide adequate financial resources, staffing, and faciliities to support these ministries.
