Major Facility Needs
Summarized below are the major facility needs as expressed by the congregation in numerous forums, including those conducted by the Vision and Strategy Committee in 2006 and 2007 in the congregation-wide "visioning process"; interviews held with all Session Committees, the entire staff, the Presbyterian Women, and others conducted by the Facilities Utilization Review members in 2007; and independent interviews conducted in 2008 by the architect, Quinn Evans, with key stake-holders of the staff and Session.
More Welcoming Church
- Sanctuary improvements, enhanced worship, including flooring and lighting
- Better Nave/Chancel space use, flexibility, and entry/egress
- Improved Narthex and gathering space
- Improved or New Welcome Center with more space
- Better directions and foot-traffic flow in entire building
- Handicapped Access throughout, consider seniors
Improved Connectedness and Belonging
- Much larger Social Hall for dinners, presentations, expanded seniors programs
- Dedicated rooms for prayer, counseling, and grief support
- Dedicated rooms for lounges, and pre-wedding/funeral events
- Multiple function meeting rooms, with flexible spaces/furnishings for youth, seniors, Wednesday 2:42 evenings, etc.
- Embrace Stephens Ministry space needs, opportunities for local mission
Nurture Faith Development and Become a “Teaching Church” for all age groups
- Better use of technology, multi-media, new forms of worship
- Dedicated spaces for Children, Mids, and Keys worship
- Flexible spaces for small group events, youth, seniors
- Larger space for large groups, such as multi-faith gatherings, plays, mission
- Full support for the Lilly Residents Program
- Provide spaces for teaching/learning opportunities for staff and congregation
Expand Campus Ministry Opportunities
- Dedicate space for campus events, including those after 10:00pm
- Contemporary lounges and gathering rooms, less “institutional” image, high-tech
- Private counseling places and support for Campus Ministry staff
Parking
- Additional Spaces on property
- Covered Drop-Off, senior and handicapped access
- Better use of City of Ann Arbor Parking Garage
- Convenient Directions, ease for newcomers
Operational Efficiencies
- Reorganize pastoral and administrative areas
- Improved and expanded music ministry preparation spaces
- Better use of technology throughout, including web site, youth teaching aids, etc.
- Improve logical adjacencies of room usage
- Improve supporting facilities, such as toilets, kitchenettes, and storage
- Utilize new technology for heating, cooling and “greening” wherever possible
