"The Journey" by Emil Weddige, 1988. Color lithograph, commissioned for the cover of the sesquicentennial history, "A History: The First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan 1826-1988."

The Journey

In the introduction to the book Mr. Weddige wrote: "It was a distinct honor to receive a commission from the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan to create a work that would be a part of the commemoration of the anniversary of its founding.  I read the literature and studied the history of the church.  From this research there was a gradual selection and it became evident the most basic characteristic was the quality of the leadership.  This leadership was constantly apparent and always within the context of nature and a landscape that filled the horizon.  It was as though a silver thread ran through time and joined with love and unity the Presbyterian Congregations of the world.  Out of numerous symbols, countless reactions, and a mountain of sketches the original work in color lithography evolved.  The work is a limited edition, hand printed, numbered and signed.
"It is with honor and pride that 'Journey' is presented.
