Church Vision and Mission
First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor, Michigan, is a community of more than 2,000 members. Founded in 1826, it is the largest Protestant church, and one of the oldest congregations, in Ann Arbor.
"First Pres," as it is affectionately known to the congregation, has a strong heritage of dynamic worship, beautiful music, inspirational programs for fellowship and education, and a strong commitment to both local and world mission. Programs for children and youth focus on growing in faith, mission, knowledge, and service.
Located near the University of Michigan campus, the church is blessed with access to exceptional intellectual, musical, and spiritual resources, and is home to a vibrant campus ministry.
In the Fall of 2007, Session authorized the Vision & Strategy Committee, working through the Facility Implementation Group, to develop a concept Master Plan that would be used to guide design decisions for the church. Quinn Evans|Architects was hired to facilitate the data gathering, data evaluation, and facility design process resulting in this document.
The over-arching task for Quinn Evans|Architects was to obtain sufficient information and to build consensus in developing a concept plan that reflected and illustrated the church’s long-range vision. This document summarizes those efforts and presents recommendations that illustrate the concept.
Following review of this plan at Session, in June 2008, the next step will be to confirm the feasibility of implementing the plan, either in its entirety or incrementally as scope packages.
