Blankets+ Sunday
On Father’s Day, Sunday, June 20, contributions for Blankets+ Sunday will be collected to support Church World Service in its efforts to alleviate local needs that result from poverty, natural disasters and resettling refugees, while promoting fair political policies and bolstering educational resources, everywhere from Pakistan to Kenya to Iowa.
For many who are in desperate need of aid, hope begins with a blanket. Church World Service begins by providing blankets, then continues with disaster supplies, food and tents. Tools provide people with the power to rebuild, seeds are offered to replant fields, wells are built to provide a safe water supply. Hope that starts with a blanket allows a community to thrive. A donation of $25 provides five warm blankets; $100 allows three women to begin a business; $200 provides a family with a draft animal to increase food production, and $1000 gives an entire village water from a well with a pump.
