College is a great time to make one's faith one's own. First Pres College stands on the corner of college and church for the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, and Washtenaw Community College. First Pres College is building Christian community one person at a time.
We are a growing ministry heading in a new direction as a UKirk ministry. We have deep roots going back over 100 years. Our student community builds friendships with undergraduates through five options:
*Wednesday Nights, 8 p.m. at the Michigan League where we gather to discuss faith questions, sometimes sing, sometimes hear faith stories from members. This returns January 11, 2017 in Room 2 a the League. On January 18 we move to a bigger room in Room 4.
*Free College Lunch, Noon come to worship at 11 a.m. on Sundays and sit together on the Lectern side with Peer Minister Lex Allum and college leaders Josh King and Maddie Mervis. After worship meet in the Welcome Center (regardless of where you sat in church) and we will walk to an area restaurant for lunch. Twice a semester we will do a meal at a church member's home.
*Coffee with Lex or Jim. Peer Minister Lex Allum and College Pastor Jim Monnett enjoy meeting at area coffee houses and catching up, talking through life and faith and everything in between.
*Special Events - Every now and then the group does something fun. In October we did the corn maze. December saw dinner at BD's Mongoloian Barbeque and the Pancake Supper where 228 college students were fed a full breakfast from 10 p.m. - Midnight to begin finals.
*Belize Mission Trip - Spring break, Feb. 24-March 3, 2017 - This break the team will fly down to Ambergris Caye, Belize to work at the Holy Cross Primary School. We have ten people and room for more. We are staying in rented condo's, driving in golf carts, and serving the 440 students at the school built in a swamp. On our free day we will travel to Xununich to climb the castle and see the Mayan ruins. After the site visit we will tube through a nearby cave with Challenge Tours. Trip cost is $800 plus airfare. In 2016 the team went to the Caribbean Christian School for the Deaf in Montego Bay, Jamaica and we worked in Ypsilanti at our church's Habitat for Humanity House of Faith.
