First Couples

First Couples provides support, fellowship and education in a relaxed environent to committed couples interested in enhancing their relationship and spiritual growth. Newcomers and drop ins are always welcome!

The group usually meets Sundays from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in Montieth Hall and also gathers at other times for a variety of social and recreational activities.

  • September 10Life of Meaning - "Meaning Makers"
    Based on PBS’s Religion & Ethics News Weekly – created by Bob Abernethy – this book looks at the broad spiritual dimension of American life by asking the big questions and drawing out surprising answers from a "who’s who" of today’s religious and spiritual thinkers from across the spectrum of faiths and denominations. The first class session will focus on how we make meaning out of the ups and downs of life. Focus: Essays 1-4.
  • September 17 Life of Meaning - "Evil and Suffering" With a focus on "Evil and Suffering" the class will explore issues like pain and loss, grief and ordinary tragedies and the place of hope in faith. Focus: Essays 5-8.

  • October 1 - Resident: Exploring Our Stories of Faith. Recall your own story of faith as you hear the faith-story of Rev. Dorothy Parks-Piatt, one of our cohort of Resident Ministers 2017-2019.

  • October 15 - Resident: Exploring Our Stories of Faith. Recall your own story of faith as you hear the faith-story of Blair Buckley, one of our cohort of Resident Ministers 2017-2019.
