Vergil and Christianity

At 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 15, our adult education class will explore the relationship between the pagan Roman poet Vergil and Christianity. Why was the fourth poem in the early book of ten poems published by Vergil swiftly adopted by Christians? Why is the thinking of the Christian theologian Augustine infused with Vergil while at the same time Augustine repudiates Vergil's poems? Why was Vergil chosen by Dante to be his guide through the Christian Hell and up Mount Purgatory? Examine these and other fascinating questions, posed by Robert Wallin, at this class in the Lewis Room.
